智慧子聽父親的教訓;褻慢人不聽責備。 A wise son heeds his father's instruction, but a mocker does
not listen to rebuke. 13:2 人因口所結的果子,必享美福;奸詐人必遭強暴。 From the fruit of his lips a man enjoys good things, but the unfaithful have a craving for violence. 13:3 謹守口的,得保生命;大張嘴的,必致敗亡。 He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin. 13:4 懶惰人羨慕,卻無所得;殷勤人必得豐裕。 The sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied. 13:5 義人恨惡謊言;惡人有臭名,且致慚愧。 The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked bring shame and disgrace. 13:6 行為正直的,有公義保守;犯罪的,被邪惡傾覆。 Righteousness guards the man of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner. 13:7 假作富足的,卻一無所有;裝作窮乏的,卻廣有財物。 One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth. 13:8 人的資財是他生命的贖價;窮乏人卻聽不見威嚇的話。 A man's riches may ransom his life, but a poor man hears no threat. 13:9 義人的光明亮〔原文是歡喜〕;惡人的燈要熄滅。 The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out. 13:10 驕傲只啟爭競;聽勸言的,卻有智慧。 Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice. 13:11 不勞而得之財必然消耗;勤勞積蓄的,必見加增。 Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow. 13:12 所盼望的遲延未得,令人心憂;所願意的臨到,卻是生命樹。 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. 13:13 藐視訓言的,自取滅亡;敬畏誡命的,必得善報。 He who scorns instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command is rewarded. 13:14 智慧人的法則〔或譯:指教〕是生命的泉源,可以使人離開死亡的網羅。 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death. 13:15 美好的聰明使人蒙恩;奸詐人的道路崎嶇難行。 Good understanding wins favor, but the way of the unfaithful is hard. 13:15 Or ((unfaithful does not endure)) 13:16 凡通達人都憑知識行事;愚昧人張揚自己的愚昧。 Every prudent man acts out of knowledge, but a fool exposes his folly. 13:17 奸惡的使者必陷在禍患裏;忠信的使臣乃醫人的良藥。 A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy brings healing. 13:18 棄絕管教的,必致貧受辱;領受責備的,必得尊榮。 He who ignores discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored. 13:19 所欲的成就,心覺甘甜;遠離惡事,為愚昧人所憎惡。 A longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil. 13:20 與智慧人同行的,必得智慧;和愚昧人作伴的,必受虧損。 He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm. 13:21 禍患追趕罪人;義人必得善報。 Misfortune pursues the sinner, but prosperity is the reward of the righteous. 13:22 善人給子孫遺留產業;罪人為義人積存資財。 A good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children, but a sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous. 13:23 窮人耕種多得糧食,但因不義,有消滅的。 A poor man's field may produce abundant food, but injustice sweeps it away. 13:24 不忍用杖打兒子的,是恨惡他;疼愛兒子的,隨時管教。 He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him. 13:25 義人吃得飽足;惡人肚腹缺糧。 The righteous eat to their hearts' content, but the stomach of the wicked goes hungry. |
